MISSION

The mission of EHS Early Childhood Career Academy is to prepare students to work in the Early Childhood Development field. Students will understand children’s development levels from birth through age eight (8). They will learn how to communicate effectively, work productively in teams, and apply appropriate academic and technical skills.

FCCLA

Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is the student career and technical organization that provides leadership, training and skills as an integral part of Early Childhood Education.

Early Childhood Education Academy

Purpose

The Early Childhood Education Program offers a sequence of courses that provides relevant knowledge and skills needed to prepare students for further education and careers in Education and Training. The content of the courses include competencies related to the following elements of the early childhood education industry: planning, management,finance, technical and production skills, underlying principles of technology, labor, community, health safety, and environmental issues, and developmentally appropriate practices for children birth through age eight.

Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential

  • 120 hours of child development education training
  • 480 hours of experience working directly with children

Course Sequence

The program is a planned sequence of instruction consisting of four secondary courses:

  • Early Childhood Education 1-introduction to early childhood education.
  • Early Childhood Education 2-observation and supervised work experience plus classroom instruction on childhood development competencies.
  • Early Childhood Education 3-observation and supervised work experience plus classroom instruction on childhood development competencies.
  • Early Childhood Education 4-observation and supervised work experience plus classroom instruction on CDA competency standards.
